Growing Popularity of Elliptical Machines

Elliptical machines are rapidly growing in popularity. Almost every gym and many homes now have their own elliptical machines. The reason for their popularity comes from the fact that they are great for a low impact workout.

Since running or jogging puts a lot of stress on your joints, an elliptical trainer is great for those with bad joints. This is especially beneficial for the older generation with aging joints. With an elliptical machine your feet stay on the pedals so there is no impact on the joints. The movement with an elliptical machine will mimic the natural motion of walking or running with the effect of walking on air.

Not only does an elliptical machine work your lower body, it will also work your upper body with the handlebars. You can get a total body workout which will tone all of your muscles and give you a great cardiovascular workout.

Elliptical machines are relatively affordable and are great for home use. You don't need an expensive gym membership to get a great cardiovascular and muscle toning workout.

Many like to use their elliptical machine three to five days a week. Three days for the beginner and up to five days for the more advanced. If you are a beginner, give yourself a day off between workouts. This will give your muscles a rest. Once you become more advanced, you can try exercising a couple of days in a row before taking a "day off".

When starting your workout, start off with a slow pace for about five minutes. This will be your warm up. Then kick it up a notch for a medium pace for another five minutes followed by five minutes at your fastest pace. After your five minute fast pace, go in reverse and do five minutes at a moderate pace and then five minutes back down to a slow pace to cool down. This 25 minute workout is great for the beginner. If you are more advanced and need more of a challenge, try workout out for 45 minutes.
